Imagine being able to get to the root cause of gut health or mental health symptoms. Dr Rachel takes an holistic approach to health that considers multiple possible underlying causes of symptoms. Such as the interaction between our genetics and our environment. Dysfunction in key bodily systems such as our stress response, our circadian rhythms, our metabolic health and our gut health. Toxic exposures and detoxification systems can all be relevant to why someone experiences digestive issues or symptoms of mental disorder. Taking a root cause approach uses cutting edge science, testing and methods to support the body's recovery instead of relying on interventions that suppress symptoms. Dr Rachel is a Functional Medicine Practitioner as well as being a Metabolic Health Expert. She believes in the body's innate ability to heal when given the correct conditions and support.
Dr Rachel qualified in medicine from the University of Edinburgh (UK) in 2003 and is a certified Functional Medical Practitioner with expert experience in treating gut health and mental health symptoms. She believes passionately that the body needs to be considered as a whole when dealing with any symptoms of ill-health. She is delighted to be able to practice a bespoke approach to achieving optimal wellness, aimed at addressing the underlying causes of symptoms and educating you on how to take charge of your own health. Together you will come up with a plan to optimise your health and resistance to illness, taking into account your personal set of circumstances and lifestyle.
Additionally Dr Rachel has a keen interest in medical ethics and holds a master degree qualification in medical laws and ethics from the University of Edinburgh. Her philosophy is that doctors should be educators and able to impart relevant information so that individuals can make the best informed choices for their own health.
Dr Rachel is a member of the British Society for Ecological Medicine and the Institute of Functional Medicine as well as being a Nutrition Network Advisor. She trained in the use of Ketogenic diets with Dr Georgia Ede and Professor Tim Noakes' Nutrition Network. Dr Rachel is a published author in the field of metabolic psychiatry.
Dr Rachel can investigate and educate you to deal with any of the following health issues:
Digestive issues and gut health issues such as inflammatory bowel conditions, IBS, food sensitivities.
Mental health issues including stress, depression, anxiety, psychosis, autism, cognitive impairment, ADHD, chronic fatigue.
Physical health issues such as MCAS, Histamine Intolerance, Mycotoxicosis, POTS.
Physical and mental health symptoms can be caused by nutrient deficiencies, food sensitivities, environmental toxins, blue light toxicity, poor mitochondrial function, gut dysbiosis and persistent infections. In addition to hormonal imbalances and nervous system dysregulation. Medications tend to suppress symptoms rather than address the underlying cause. Additionally, some medications increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease, ironically worsening some possible underlying drivers of mental health issues, namely high insulin levels, leptin resistance, insulin resistance & mitochondrial dysfunction.
Dr Rachel's standard approach is to consider ALL aspects of your health, with plenty of time in appointments to discuss anything you need to.
